Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has requested the Gento Group of Companies to reconstruct the Old Hill Cut Bridge that links the Over Head Steel Bridge as a plus to the Hill Cot Road Project.
This was made in a public notice issued on Monday 20th February 2023. This notice came after awarding the Gento Group of Companies the reconstruction contract.
Keifel Mohamed Jaward, Communications Person of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority said the reconstruction of the bridge would enhance proper movement of people, goods and services.
He stated that the bridge which had been in a dilapidated fashion would be viable after completion to enable the flow of vehicles and pedestrians and easily serves as an accessible connection along various routes.
Mohamed Jaward revealed that SLRA would be poised to see a better work done by the Gento Group of Companies within the given timeframe as they had over the years did extremely well in the construction of roads within the Freetown Municipality.
He urged the public and motorists to cooperate with the rules during the course of the reconstruction period.
“The reason why the road will be block amid the time of reconstruction is to enable fast and possible rebuilding process and to adhere to the safety guidelines of the workers,” Mr. Jaward said.
Mohamed Jaward advised communities to frown against the dumping of garbage into drainages as this would undermine the road infrastructure and the integrity of the structures.
He called on the public to help protect those bridges and not to transform them into dump sites.
Ing Karefa Kamara, General Operations Manager of the Gento Group of Companies said the reconstruction of the bridge will commence on Saturday, 25th February 2023 and during this period, a section of the road will be temporarily closed to the public until the completion of the work which will take two months.
