Sierra Leone’s Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Mrs. Isata Mahoi, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) across the country.

The Minister participated in the Rainbo Initiative’s Sponsored Walk alongside SGBV survivors, stressing the need for collective action to safeguard survivor dignity and strengthen partnerships in the fight against SGBV.

During the event, Minister Mahoi highlighted the importance of reporting SGBV cases and encouraged survivors to make use of the 116 toll-free line accessible on all networks to seek help and support. She also urged media practitioners to uphold ethical reporting standards when covering SGBV-related issues to avoid reinforcing stigma or causing further harm to survivors.

The walk underscored the government’s ongoing dedication to protecting women and girls and promoting a culture of respect, dignity, and safety. The Minister’s participation serves as a clear demonstration of the government’s willingness to collaborate with stakeholders to prevent SGBV and support survivors.

The 116 toll-free line offers a safe and confidential space for survivors to report cases and access essential support services. Minister Mahoi’s call to action is expected to strengthen nationwide efforts to address and ultimately end SGBV in Sierra Leone.

The Rainbo Initiative Sponsored Walk brought together government officials, civil society organizations, community leaders, and other stakeholders showcasing a united front in the fight against SGBV.
