Funded by the Steve Sinnott Foundation, the GEDSA conducted a two-day training on 1-2 April 2026 at the Sylvanus Municipal Academy Secondary School in Makeni.

The training focused on enhancing skills in diversity and inclusion practices and targeted teachers, members of school management committees, and parents.

Ahmed Sheku Faroh, Esq. expressed gratitude to the Steve Sinnott Foundation for its ongoing financial support, especially amid global economic challenges. He emphasized that the initiative seeks to promote equality and inclusion in society by improving practices within the education sector.

“We aim to incorporate diverse perspectives on how to better support children with disabilities by creating an improved learning environment and empowering educators to show compassion toward all students,” Faroh stated.

Aloysius Bangalie praised GEDSA for its consistent and impactful contributions to Sierra Leone’s education sector. He noted that these efforts complement the government’s 2021 Radical Inclusion Policy. “The skills teachers acquire will help them better understand their learners and identify those who need additional support to promote equality,” he added.

Teachers who attended the training highlighted its practical impact. Francess Isatu Kamara noted that the inclusive lesson plan template was particularly useful. “This training helped us address the knowledge gap among students, specifically in supporting slow and fast learners,” she said.

Moses Karim Thullah described the training as participatory and insightful, adding, “We gained valuable knowledge on how to handle learners in diverse ways in the classroom.”

GEDSA’s consistent and timely interventions underscore the vital role of organizations in promoting development by addressing long-standing structural inequalities in Sierra Leone’s education sector.
