A health care center in Folo Kamba Chiefdom is calling on the Government to immediately employ more people as the center is thin on staff thus endearing the lives of patients.
Gbentu health care center midwife Aminata Conteh said the health care center serves a vast catchment area, and her being the only midwife it’s an ineffective service to the people.
She said “we should be two in number here, but am the only midwife here, and I can’t do it all alone in the labor room, but if we are two in number then the work will go on smoothly and expeditiously.”
Therefore she said government should consider sending midwives to the facility to help provide better health care service to the people.
Finnah Kamara a retired traditional birth attendant disclosed to A-Z reporter that government humiliated and warned her not to participate anymore in the traditional delivery of babies for pregnant women at home and health care centers.
Notwithstanding though, Finnah said she’s still willing to assist the health center in the labor room if she’s called upon and given the chance to do so.
Aminata Conteh the health care center midwife urged the government to enroll traditional birth attendants into the health care system to serve as auxiliaries in the labor room as she argues that they have the experience and willingness to assist in the area of childbirth.
There’s no cleaner here, she said adding it is important for the labor room to be tidy at all times.
Another challenge she disclosed that the facility is faced with issues of payment; thus it has affected effective and smooth running of the facility.
