Sierra Leone senior national Female team (Sierra queen’s) was on Monday 25th October 2021 Eliminated by the Scorpions of the Gambia at the Independence Stadium in the Gambia.
Sierra queen’s lost the first leg against the Scorpions of the Gambia at the A.T.S Stadium in Liberia by two goals to nil and in the return leg at the Independence Stadium Sierra Leone settled to a one all draw with the Scorpions of the Gambia.
Fatoumata Kanteh scored the early goal in the 21 minutes of play to give the host additional advantage and a hope of qualification to the next rounds of the qualifiers, the goal dented more harm to the Visitors who failed to get a goal in the first leg encounter.
Zainab Macauley scored get a goal back in the second half in the 55th minutes to have given some hope to the Sierra Queens but they must score three more goals if they were going to progress to the next rounds of the qualifications for the Africa Cup of Nations to be host in Morocco.
Aminata Mamie Bellon was showing a red card for infringement of Gambian player as it dent the hopes of the Sierra Queen to get three goals they were searching for to progress to the next rounds of the Qualifiers.
The Gambia will now face either Central Africa Republic or Cameroon; the tournament is set to take place in Morocco.
Key factors cause the Sierra queens to be eliminated from the qualifiers. One has to do with no structured female League in the Country for over four to five years now; the Female players have not been engaged in Competitions before going for the qualifiers unlike the opponent who have a structured female League running back home.
Over the years Sierra Leone national teams have a poor record against the Gambia National team the last time these two side meets was in a Qualifiers when the Gambia won the first leg away from home and Sierra Leone won the return leg, but went out through away goals advantage in the Qualifiers.
Sierra Leone Senior National female team went into the Qualifiers with no structured female football in the Country and Sierra queens have not been effective.
In the past matches they lose against their Liberian Counterparts in a Mano River peace Gala Competition, and the technical team did not invite any foreign based players that are playing out of the Country.
Experience again is another key factor that affects the team as they were not clinical in front of goal compared to the opponents who were well composed throughout the match.
