Solomon Alieu, a 31-year-old fuel distributor, appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown, facing a charge of Fraudulent Conversion under Section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.
The charge alleges that between October 1st and October 31st, 2023, at Obama Junction, Regent Village, Western Area in Freetown, Solomon Alieu fraudulently converted property entrusted to him by Morrie Bassie Amara for safekeeping. The converted property includes two tons of half-inch iron rods valued at twenty-seven thousand Leones (27,000) and fifteen lengths of five-eighths-inch iron rods valued at three hundred and sixty-seven Leones (367). The total value of the converted property amounts to five thousand five hundred and five Leones (5,505) and a grand total of thirty-two thousand five hundred and five Leones (32,505).
During the court session, Solomon Alieu did not enter a plea as the charge was read and explained to him. The prosecution witness was absent, prompting a request for a short adjournment. Magistrate Kekura, in the meantime, denied bail and remanded the accused person to the Male Correctional Center in Freetown. The case was adjourned to January 9, 2024, for further hearing. Sergeant 8975 Bangura is prosecuting the matter.
