The Board of Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) has appointed Senior Men’s Patriots player Abass Gbla to serve as Head Coach of the Under-19 Men’s Team following his experience and dedication to national service.

Abass Gbla is among nine appointed to serve respective positions in the administration of CSL for the year 2024.

Receiving the news, Abass says he is grateful for the appointment. “I have served the Under-19 team as an assistant coach, so I know what’s going on there.

With a little conscious touch to certain areas, we can deliver as expected,” he tells CSL Media, admonishing players to shoulder responsibility.

Abass started cricket at age 7, growing up at king tom, the literal home of Cricket.

He passed through all playing cadres, leaving an indelible footprint in the Under-13 and Under-15 tiers until his call-up to the Senior Men’s National Team in 2010 where he is currently an active player.

In 2022, he was the Assistant Coach for the U-19 boys at the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifier held in Abuja.

For club, he has played for Mid-West, RSLAF, Asian Lions, and Regent Olympics.

He has won a number of domestic titles as youth coach.

He won the Division-1 League for Regent Olympics in 2019.

He achieved same at the U-19 Franchise League in 2021. He won the Female Franchise League with Glenn Thomson Female Club in 2020.

He and other technical staff brained the country’s 3rd place winner at the ICC  U-19 Tournament in Abuja in 2022.

Having finished the ICC Foundation Course, Abass is awaiting his ICC level 1 certificate having done a number of ACA level 1 and 2 coaching courses.
