A new policy has been introduced at Fourah Bay College whereby diploma courses have been detached from the mainstream and placed under Extra Mural department of the university. This disclosure was made by Head of Public Information Dr. Hindolo Tonya Musa.
We have gathered that the new policy is part of reforms introduced based on an amendment of the University Act.
Many students have been expressing dissatisfaction with the new policy, describing it as discriminatory. A-Z News Speaking to an honor’s 2 student of the mass communications department preferring not be named, she revealed that plans are underway to introduce an online program at the university. She however expressed concern about the Information and Communications (ICT) gaps at the university that needs to be upgraded in actualizing the modernization plan of one of Africa’s oldest universities.
Many are of the view that an online program fits into modern education pattern and is therefore a laudable initiative that will allow prospective students who cannot have time for the classroom interaction to study and earn their diplomas and degrees with ease.
There is a general calm at the campus following a rowdy student election based on Campism politics.
