The Sierra Leone Football Association, President Madam Isha Johansen has on the May 22, 2021 at a press conference held at the Bintumani Hall, Aberdeen Freetown, officially announced four (4) new FIFA Approved Artificial Turf and a 26000 seater stadium Projects to be carried out across the country simultaneously.
The 4 venues to be given a face lift under the said projects are; SLFA Academy (Kingtom), Approve School (Western Area), Lungi Central Field and the Coronation Field (Bo).
The FIFA Council Member further announced the decision of the SLFA Executive Committee to transform the Port Loko Town Field into a state of the art (26,000 capacity) playing facility which will eventually be the country’s Football Federation Stadium.
According to the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Christopher Kamara the reasons why Port Loko Mini Stadium was chosen; the place is very closer to the Capital City Freetown and very close to the Lungi International Airport that make it possible for the Executive Committee to choose the playing venue and it is leased for 50 years.
Another reason is that over the years the Football Association and the Premier League board normally gets it difficult to have access to the National Stadium in organizing matches that also move the Executive Committee to get their owned playing venue on their owned.
Christopher Kamara affirmed that the Football Association has five hundred thousand dollars in the Bank from FIFA for the organizing a structure female league in the Country which the football Association is going to Organized within the short possible time and the football Association is also planning to build a state of the art female Football Academy for the development of female Football in the Country.
Additionally, maintenance work has also been approved to soon commence at the Kono Artificial turf pitch as the installation of floodlights and construction of the outside perimeter fence at the Kenema Town Field are underway.
In all this the President of the Sierra Leone football Association Madam Isha Johansen said these project are for Sierra Leone and for these are on the way, because if the football family came as one stop the infighting, and try to promote the game then FIFA will give more of such development project in the Country. She there call on all and sundry to come together and promote the game.
