Four Cyclists from Sierra Leone have on 13th April 2022 departed the shores of Sierra Leone for Ghana ahead of the Africa Cycling tournament.
According to the Abdul Karim Kamara the CEO of Lunsar Cycling club, the four athletes are the outstanding athletes that represented Sierra Leone in the just concluded the Lunsar cycling tour.
He affirmed that the Lunsar tour marks the seventh edition and one of the biggest ever in the history of Sierra Leone Cycling. Noting the tour hosted Cyclists from different parts of the world such as America, Germany, and the United Kingdom and it lasted four days and attracted 120 riders across the globe.
He added that the riders rangers from different categories from the junior to the elite riders both male and female took part in the tour de Lunsar. He further that the essence of the Championship is to expose the cyclists and allow them to compete with other riders on the international stage, noting that the Cyclists will compete on Saturday at 105 Km in Accra.
Fatima Deborah Conteh is the fastest female cyclist in the Country at the present riding for 120 kilometers and happens to win the female category with a cash price and another attractive package. Noting that she is well prepared to represent Sierra Leone in the Africa Championship and has also secured a professional contract with a club in Spain.
According to Fatima Deborah Conteh, this is her first international tournament that she is going to represent Sierra Leone,
“Am ready to make my mark on the international stage being my first time representing my Country, am going with high determination to win the Gold medal for my Country, calling on all Sierra Leonean to remember me in their prayers,” she said.
Ibrahim Kamara won the Junior Championships category that was consisted of 100 riders. He told this medium they are confident that they will go on such trips and set a big mark in Africa Championship.
While Abu Sheik the youngest and the most talented athlete in Sierra Leone winning the best Cyclists, said he is in readiness to face his opponents.
Ibrahim G is the current champion in the Lunsar Cycling tour, he wins everything starting from the Sprint race Clime, and general race for winning all the Jerseys in the different categories, the CEO said he is the best Cyclist in Sierra Leone.
Ibrahim said “it has not been an easy one I want to thank the coaches, the ones that help me, and above all hard work pays, and am sure I will win something in Ghana.
Abdul Karim Kamara said they get the funding from cooperative bodies, such as Science tours, Marapas Mining, and Africell helps them to get Air tickets and access to accommodation for the Championship. He said by next year they will start the 8th edition starting from May 27th to 31st May 2023.
