Former Minister of Lands and Country Planning, Dr. Denise Sandy by all indication, will face the nine man committee at the Bank Complex, as a person of interest. The committee is hearing complaints from members of the public.
Spokesman of the nine man committee, Moses S. Mambu has said they are not going to leave any stone unturned in so far as investigating land issues is concerned. He said if their investigation leads them to the former Minster, Denise Sandy, the committee would have no alternative but to summon him before the committee headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Inter-Religious Council, Alhaji Mutada.
He said five hundred complaints have been received from members of the public noting that thirty of those complaints have been looked into. The committee looks at ten complaints daily.
He said their mandate is to look into land issues involving state land grabbed by members of the public as well as state lands found to have been leased to two people. He said they discovered that one state land could be leased to two individuals having almost the same documents signed by officials of the Ministry.
Mambu said some officials of the Ministry have been indicted already, pointing out that the Minister, Dr. Turad Senesie and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry have been very supportive of the work of the committee. He said they have cabinet approval.
Land is a complex issue and the committee is expected to come out with recommendation in order to bring sanity within the sector. The committee has a private surveyor and legal practitioners attached to them to verify complaints from members of the public.
