A prison officer who identified himself as Michael Theophilus Yeremeh Kargbo on Wednesday 30th March 2022 appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown.
He was alleged of engaging in unlawful business dealings with inmates at the Correctional facility.
The witness who is a chief Correctional Officer Sapha Conteh attached to the reintegration correction service recognized the accused as one of the correctional officer
He recalled on 3rd December 2021 and said on the said date he was on duty at the correctional facility when one of the prison officers went to the office of the manager David Conteh and gave him information.
He said the manager then followed the officers and they went to the cell which the 2018 presidential candidate Mohammed Kamarainba Mansaray was in.
The witness said he called the Director General of the Correctional facility to meet him at the cell of Kamarainba and there he met the accused inside the cell of Kamarainba.
He said he was instructed to search the cell of Kamarainba and during the searched he discovered food stuffs, money and mobile phones but did not know the type of phone.
He said the Director General then ordered that the food stuffs been taken to the headquarters at New England Ville.
He said later in the day, he was called to make a statement at the Criminal Investigation Department CID HQ Pademba road.
Defense counsel C. Campbell did not cross examined the witness.
The accused was arraigned before the court on a count of unlawful Business Dealings with inmates contrary to section 25(1) of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service act 2014.
According to the particulars of offence the accused person on Friday 3rd December 2021 at re-integration facility Sierra Leone Correctional Service New England Ville being correctional service personnel had unlawful business dealings with inmates knowing fully that it is prohibited.
The accused person is on bail and the matter was adjourned to the 13th April 2022 for cross examination.
