The Youth Council of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and youths of other political parties in Bo District, have over the weekend presented Mohamed Daramy, aka DMX to the District and Regional Chairmen of the Party as their Member of the sixth Parliament.
Presenting Mr. Daramy to the elders of Bo SLPP, Victor Muana said the youths are active mobilizers in gathering support for the Party. He added the youths want the extra seat under the Propositional Representation (PR) in Bo District. He appealed to the elders to give the youths an extra seat for them to have a representative in parliament. Hon. Sualiho M. Koroma who spoke in the capacity of Ambassador for youths in Bo, confirmed the youths act as a catalyst for politicians to get power.
Receiving Mr Mohamed Daramy, the Resident Minister of South and the Minister of Energy and Power, who is also Regional Chairman Alhaji Kanja Sesay, the Bo District Young Generation Leader, Ibrahim Bash Kamara said the youths are not competing with any other candidates to be MP.
He noted they are only appealing to the party to consider them for one seat which they want to give to Mohamed Daramy aka DMX. Mr Kamara said they have watched amongst themselves and decided that Mohamed Daramy is the right person who is capable of seeking their interest in parliament.
The Young Generation Leader said they were making a humble request to give the Party symbol to the youth. They also appealed to the stakeholders of the SLPP in Bo District to consider their request to have a youth representative in parliament. He added that if the youths are given the opportunity, they would be able to succeed the politicians after they would have retired from active politics.
Responding, Mohamed Daramy thanked his colleagues for the confidence that they want to repose in him. He said he has served the party in different positions at zonal and constituency levels.
“I am not a wealthy man. I am not the most educated youth in Bo. I am not the most popular youth in Bo. But you people have decided to give me this opportunity to go and represent you in Parliament. I have accepted this responsibility and honour. You are contributing your own resources to the campaign. You, people, have shown true love to me. I will promise you all faithfully that I will not disappoint the youth of Bo and Sierra Leone”, DMX said.
He assured the people of BO that he wants to go to Parliament to change the narrative; the negative perception about youths. “People see us as irresponsible; as people who only cause trouble. I am going to Parliament to do my best for the youth,” he assured.
The Chairman of SLPP Bo District said the youths have impressed him with such a crowd to support one of them to give him the SLPP symbol. He said he has known DMX for ages and he has always proven to be a responsible youth. Mohamed Ali told the youth that he alone will not make a decision on that, but promised to inform his executive and other senior party members about the request they have made to the Party.
On his part, Alhaji Kanja Sesay SLPP Chairman for the South said it is unprecedented for the youth in Bo to bring forward one of their colleagues to represent them in Parliament. He noted it is a clear indication that Mohamed Daramy known as DMX is their favourite.
He added he was impressed with the youth, whom he described as foot soldiers who support the SLPP and other parties to come together and decide their own destiny. He also promised he will inform other elders of the SLPP about their request.
