For Manslaughter: Business Woman to Face High Court

The presiding magistrate of Pademba Road Court No.1, Marke Ngagba has committed the matter of Susan Komba to High Court for proper trial.

The accused on the above matter was sometimes arraigned before him on a count charge of Manslaughter contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

It was alleged on the police charge sheet that on Wednesday 1st December 2021, at Block N10 Grafton, the accused unlawfully killed her husband Denis Komba.

Commencing with his case, the prosecutor sergeant 9155 Dwhight Macathy docked first witness Aiah Komba, son of the deceased who narrated how the accused Susan Komba killed his father.

Among other thing, Aiah Komba said on the date of the alleged incident, he was inside his room when he returned home from work; when he heard his father calling his name.

The son of the deceased said when he approached his father; he told him that the accused has threatened him that he will know no peace until he died. He said upon hearing that he went and reported the matter to the police.

The first witness further stated in court that his father complained about the issue to elderly people residing at the Barrack and the church.

He said few days later, the accused confronted his father and hit him on the chest with her hand. He said as a result of that, his father dropped on a seat and he was trying to separate them when the accused slapped him on his face.

He said his father was rushed to the Chinese hospital at Jui where he passed away.

In continuation of his case, three other witnesses testified including the scene of crime officer who narrated how he witnessed the post mortem examination done by the Government Forensic pathologist at Connaught hospital.

In the police file, the certificate of cause of death indicated that the deceased Denis Komba died of multiple blunt force fractures / injuries of the neck, severe assault, and strangulation among others.

Shortly after the matter was mentioned yesterday for further hearings, the prosecutor sergeant 9155 Dwhight Macathy informed the Bench that he has closed the case for the prosecution on the last adjourned date. He said it left with the defense to state whether they are going to open their defense or make a no case submission.

Defense counsel MF Bangura seeks the Bench indulgence to enlighten him as to where the prosecutor has stopped in prosecuting his case, but was turned down.

Having gone through the file before him, magistrate Marke Ngagba said the prosecution has adduced sufficient evidence to warrant the committal of the matter. He committed the matter to High Court for proper trial.
