FOR GIVING HIS NAME TO A STREET… FORMER PMDC MP DRAGGED TO COURT

A former member of the Peoples Movement of Democratic Change Party (PMDC), who was also a Member of Parliament, Hon. Paul Kamara appeared before the High Court last week for unlawfully erecting  a sign post indicating his name on the street as ‘Paul Kamara Street’ situated at Kandeh Town Extension in Bo.

Mohamed M. Sheriff, lawyer representing the Appellant , Osman Alie, on the 16 January 2017,  said the appellant declared his intension by applying to Bo City Council for a street to be named after him and an application form was issued to him by one Mr. Mannah attached to the Valuation Department of the Bo City Council.

He said that upon the completion of the application form, his client was mandated to do payment for the street into the Bo City Council account and payment was effected, and the street in question was allocated to the applicant therein.

Lawyer Sheriff said that his client is a resident of Kandeh Town and a patriotic Sierra Leonean and decided to embark on community development by constructing a bridge on the street to link two communities together that worth twenty million Leones.

He went on to say that upon the completion of the bridge, his client hired a truck from the Bo City Council Waste Management Department to backfire the bridge to made the surface of the bridge for smooth riding but Hon Paul Kamara has erected a sign post on the street indicating the name of the Street as ‘Paul Kamara Street’.

Lawyer Sherriff said that on the 22 July 2020, he wrote to Bo City Council upon the instruction of his client, pleading with the council to do the needful as an institution, but to no avail.

However, Hon Paul Kamara said in court that he does not know why he was in court and refused to say a word; however the court explained to him the reason of him been in court.

Justice Alfred Tommy Ganda ruled that Bo City Council should be summoned to court and give clarification as to whose name should really be on the Street.
