The Final Session of the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone, has on Tuesday the 28th February 2023, adopted the Report of the Committee of Privileges & Ethics to pardon three All People’ Congress Party (APC) who have shown remorse for their unfashionable display of hooliganism in the well of Parliament in the 23rd of November 2022.
Laying the Report of the Privileges and Ethics Committee in the Well of Parliament, the Chairman of the said Committee Paramount Chief Member of Parliament Hon. Alhaji Badara Sheriff, said the incident took place on the 23rd of November 2022 and the subsequent Ruling by the Hon. speaker involved the three Members of Parliament which are; Hon. Lahai Marah, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara and Hon. Aaron Koroma.
The Chairman of the Committee also informed Parliament that, his Committee received letters of remorse from the three Members of Parliament expressing their remorse for their unfortunate and dishonorable in the Well of Parliament on the 3rd of November 2022 which led to the destruction of properties belonging to Parliament worth millions of Leones.
The Chairman of the Committee confirmed that, the Committee met and discussed the issue and after consultations with the Hon. Clark of Parliament, the later confirmed that the three Members of Parliament had forfeited their salaries and allowances for the months of December 2022 and January 2023. He went on to say, the Committee now view that, due to their remorsefulness, the three months salaries to be forfeited be reduced to two months.
According to the Chairman of the Committee, the Committee was established mainly to ensure that, discipline and decorum are maintained for the dignity and image of Parliament.
The motion was moved by the Chairman of the Committee of Privileges and Ethics Committee, seconded by Hon. P. C. Mimae Karjue Koroma and was carried by the House. As soon as the motion was carried, the Rt. Hon. Speaker graciously ordered the three Members of Parliament to take their respective seats.
