For Defrauding University Students: Fraudster In Police Net

The Sierra Leone Police has of last weekend arrested a man name James Sillah in Bo for allegedly defrauding more than 14 prospective University students with false promise of helping them gain easy access to various Universities; after taking monies from these students and then disappears.

James Sillah was arrested on information that he was in town.

In a statement to the Criminal Investigations Department questioning his affiliation to the alleged crime he was accused of, in his response said that he is working for the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).

Police said James Sillah was arrested and on charge of suspicion of obtaining money by false pretenses.  They said this came as a result of the reports that had been made at the police in connection with the same guy by different parents and students.

According to police a woman filed a criminal complaint against him alleging he collected from her more than $300 and falsely promised to facilitate her entry in to University, but the woman said James Sillah never did what he said but disappeared. 

Police said this case wasn’t Sillah’s only alleged involvement in defrauding students by requesting monies from them in the guise of an easy entry pathway to University.

The case has been transferred to Pujehun for further investigations due to the reports made by 14 different people and more on the pretext of helping them gain easy admission in to the University.
