For Alleged Vehicle Theft: 25 Yrs-Old Driver To Face High Court

A 25-year-old Lahai Sama was on Monday 19th June 2023, sent to prison by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba road court No1 for fraudulently converting one white Honda Pilot vehicle to his own use.

The accused was arraigned during a preliminary investigation on one count charge of Fraudulent conversion contrary to section 20(1(1v(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the charge, the accused on Saturday 8th April 2023 at Bo School Compound, in the Kakuwa chiefdom Southern province fraudulently converted certain property that is to say one white Honda Pilot vehicle with registration number ASE 118 valued NLe 145,600/00 new notes entrusted to him by George Agbeigbema Dambo for the purpose of safekeeping.

Prior to the committal, Magistrate Ngegba informed the court that the prosecution in proven their case called three witnesses, two factual and one formal.

He added that the evidence against the accused person is sufficient to warrant his commitment to stand trial at the high.

In this circumstance, magistrate Ngegba committed the accused to the high court for further trial without bail.

However, the accused Lahai Sama was a driver to the complainant for the past four years and on the aforementioned date, during the OBBA event when the accused was asked to park the vehicle inside the Bo School compound close to the library, he ran away with the said vehicle but was later arrested by the police.

The accused made before his committal made six subsequent appearances in court and has been in prison since his arrest on the 19th of April 2023 with no legal representation on his behalf.

Police Inspector Kadie M Taylor prosecuted the matter.
