For Alleged Theft: Two Youths Behind Bars

Issa Leonard Sesay and Abdul Wahab made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba road court No.6 in Freetown on a count of Larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence on the 6th November 2023 at No.100 peninsular Road Goderich the western area in Freetown did steal one hundred and ninety three bags of cement, two tons of 5/8 iron rods and sixty five cartoons of 600 by600 MM tile all to the total sum of seventy thousand nine hundred and fifty Leones (70,950) property of Fenty Bangura.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused person, No plea was taken.
Police Constable 18235 Thoronka K.K lead Prosecution witness number one Fenty Bangura a Civil servant said he recognized the accused persons in the dock as his workers.
He recalled on 6th November 2023 on the above date around 7:30 he went home his wife received mobile phone ringing after the telephone conversation his wife told him that someone informed her about her shop.
The witness said he went to Adonkia police station and made report, himself together with the police officers went to his shop where he met ten bags of cement ready to be transported by a tricycle (keke) the police officers took the ten bags of cement together with the accused persons to the said police station.
The witness said on the following day when the accused persons went to work he interrogated them and they admitted stealing the properties.
The witness said the police officer called him requested for transportation to go to where they sold the properties, the witness said he observed that 193 bags of cement are missing; two tons 5/8 iron rods sixty five cartoons tiles all to the total of 70,950.
He made statement at the police station.
The witness was cross examined by J.Smith who applied for bail for and on behalf of the accused persons that they are Sierra Leoneans resident within this jurisdiction that they have reliable sureties who are willing and ready to go into recognisance on their behalf they will not interfere with prosecution witness or witnesses nor will they jumped bail.
He made his application pursuant to section 79 2 and 3 of the Criminal procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent both accused persons to the male correctional center in Freetown matter adjourned to the 6th February 2024.
