Magistrate Mark of the Pademba Road Court No.1 yesterday Monday 22nd August, 2022, refused bail and remanded the accused Kasim Watffa for the alleged murder of Staff Sergeant of RSLAF Mahmoud Barrie.
The accused Kasim Watffa is under preliminary investigation for four count offences ranging from murder, wounding and assault contrary to law.
According to the particulars of offence, on Tuesday 17th May, 2022 at Davies Drive, Hill station in Freetown the accused murdered Staff Sergeant 18172012 Mamoud Barrie.
The accused also maliciously wounded and assaulted Sergeant 18181414 Samuel Tucker in a manner thereby occasioning actual bodily harm.
It could be recalled that on the 12th July, 2022, Magistrate Ngegba granted an application made by the Defense Counsel Francis Gabbidon Esq., that the accused to be sent to the Kissy Psychiatric hospital for a period of 30 days for the accused to be observed or treated, since being alleged of unsound mind.
However, during yesterday’s hearing, the Defense Counsel informed the Court that the order of the Bench has not been complied with.
He therefore urged the Bench for the prison to act upon the said order.
Having heard his submission, Magistrate Ngegba therefore instructed the Prosecutor and the Deputy Assistant Registrar (DAR) to do a follow up at the Psychiatric hospital and the Correctional Centre for the accused to be examined as against Monday 29th August, 2022.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Christiana Davies Cole was the Prosecutor.
