The security sector in Bo district has imposed an immediate ban on the operation of tipper trucks within the municipality of Bo and its surrounding areas following a fatal collision involving an unregistered tipper truck and a commercial motorbike. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the tipper grounds along the Bo-Koribondo Road.

The decision, confirmed by Swahibu Koroma, the Bo District Security Coordinator of the Office of National Security (ONS), aims to prevent further fatalities and restore public confidence in road safety. Mr. Koroma confirmed that all tipper truck operations within the district are temporarily suspended until further notice.

“This measure takes effect immediately and will remain in force while investigations continue and comprehensive safety guidelines are developed,” Koroma stated.

According to reports, the accident tragically claimed the lives of at least two individuals and left others critically injured, sparking public outrage and protests from some commercial motorbike riders and local residents.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to our correspondent described how an unregistered tipper truck struck a motorbike carrying Hawa Kaisamba, the Human Resource Officer at Bo Government Hospital, another woman, and a baby. The motorbike rider was killed instantly, while Kaisamba was rushed to Freetown with severe leg injuries, where she later died en route. The other woman was pronounced dead at Bo Government Hospital, while the baby, though injured, is reportedly responding to treatment.

The Bo East Police Division has impounded the tipper truck involved and is continuing its investigation. Meanwhile, security personnel, including the Operational Support Division (OSD) of the Sierra Leone Police, remain deployed along major roads to enforce the ban and maintain order.

Mr. Koroma has called on tipper truck owners and drivers to comply fully with the order, stressing that while the ban is temporary, it is essential to protect lives. He further emphasized that the authorities are working to develop strict tariffs, controls, and vehicle registration enforcement for heavy-duty trucks operating in the district.
