President Julius Maada Bio has yesterday the 8th August 2024 launched a comprehensive national security and policy strategy.
The first gentle man said for the very first time since independence, Sierra Leone unveiled a comprehensive National Security and Policy strategy.
According to the President, this document provides for across-the-board structure and a coordinated, holistic, and inclusive approach to keeping Sierra Leone safe for every citizen.
He underscored the fact that the roll-out of this all-encompassing national strategy and policy is therefore critical and central for addressing our country’s security needs.
“Our country will thrive only when it is peaceful, secure, and stable. It is the obligation of every citizen to keep his or her community and the nation as a whole peaceful. Indeed, the security of our beloved country is our collective responsibility,” he explains.
He thanked the international partners for their support and commitments,
and went on to extending his profound gratitude to stakeholders across the country for their invaluable contribution to the authoring this comprehensive document.
This strategy is intended to enhance the country’s security framework and policy approaches, aiming to address various challenges and improve overall national stability.

The National Security and Policy Strategy launched by President Bio is part of a broader effort to modernize Sierra Leone’s security infrastructure and address emerging challenges. This strategy likely involves several key components, which are as follows:
Identifying and analyzing potential threats, including internal conflicts, terrorism, cyber threats, and environmental hazards.
Enhancing the capacity and coordination of security institutions like the police, military, and intelligence agencies to effectively manage and mitigate risks.
Building stronger relationships between security forces and local communities to foster trust, gather intelligence, and ensure community support in security efforts.
Updating and implementing policies and laws that support national security objectives, ensuring they align with international standards and human rights.
Investing in advanced technology, infrastructure, and training to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of security operations.
Strengthening partnerships with regional and global security organizations to address transnational threats and share best practices.
