First Lady Strengthens Partnership with UN Women

In a significant meeting held on August 21, 2025, First Lady of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Fatima Bio, welcomed Madam Setcheme Jeronime Mongbo, Head of Office for UN Women in Sierra Leone, and her team to discuss strengthening collaboration between UN Women and the Office of the First Lady.

The meeting, held at the First Lady’s office in Freetown, focused on developing strategic initiatives to empower women and address gender-based challenges across the country. Mrs. Bio emphasized the vital role that partnerships play in driving social change and improving the quality of life for women and girls in Sierra Leone.

The dialogue centered on identifying concrete programs and initiatives that could promote gender equality and women’s empowerment, especially in areas such as gender-based violence, access to education, and economic opportunities.

During the meeting, Madam Mongbo congratulated Mrs. Bio on her recent election as President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). This prestigious role positions Mrs. Bio as a prominent advocate for women’s rights across Africa and reaffirms her commitment to advancing the status of women in Sierra Leone.

Both leaders agreed on the urgent need for coordinated efforts to create a supportive environment where women and girls can thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.

As Mrs. Bio continues to champion women’s issues, this strengthened collaboration with UN Women represents a proactive step toward building a more inclusive and equitable future. Together, they aim to implement impactful programs that will create lasting change for women and girls throughout Sierra Leone.
