Fire ravaged through shopping centres in kabala destroying 14 shops and 2 houses on Sunday 6th March,2022.
The fire started at the kabala business district, an area close to the iconic clock tower.
According to witnesses the fire started at around 7:30pm and the cause of the fire is still unknown, as the spread throughout and destroyed shops and houses and items worth over billions uncounted for.
An eyewitness said, many of the shop owners were not around, however, it rumored that the fire incident is due to faulty electrical wires.
Mohammed Papa an eye witness and of the rescuers who helped in salvaging the incident expressed dissatisfaction that other instead of helping put out the fire.
The Vice Chairman of Kabala bike riders union, Osman Dumbuya said his shop was full of used clothing material that he was selling.
He said on the day of the incident shops were closed because Sunday’s most business centres are not operating.
Alusine Sheriff another shop owner was appreciative of the work that was done by those people who risked their lives in putting out the fire.
Hassanatu Jalloh a shop owner also said the fire was unexpected and gruesome as it destroyed several shops and houses and looters used that as an important to loot so many properties as she said she was looted about 10 boxes of cigarettes each costing 2.5Million.
