A Carpentry workshop at Community area in Koidu City is reported to have been destroyed by fire on Wednesday night 16th March, 2022.
In an interview with Abubakarr Dumbuya Deputy Commander fire force Kono Branch, he told A-Z that the cause of the fire accident is as a result of the burning of unwanted materials by workers at the said carpentry shop on Wednesday evening after work on that fateful day and as usual at the back of the structure which coincided with the heavy winds that blew and eventually burnt down the wooden structure .
He said the shop was jam packed with dry boards and some flammable materials by the other occupants which also contributed to set the whole structure ablaze within a twinkle of an eye.
Mr. Dumbuya further noted that the fire force finds it very difficult at times to put out some fire within the municipality because of poor cooperation by the community people to get the attention of the fire service providers when there is an outbreak of fire. When asked to know how often they do embark on community sensitization, the fire force Kono Deputy Commander Abubakarr Dumbuya noted that from 2008 when the Fire Force came to Kono, there has been a lot of sensitizations through radio discussions and even at community levels.
But he went on to note that most of the times the people do ignore to contact the Fire Force through their emergency number 305 on Africell which most of the times lead to massive destruction when there is a fire outbreak he emphasized.
He however called on all and sundry to locate or call the Fire Force when there is fire outbreak to save lives and properties of the Citizenry.
