The leadership, senior management, and staff of the Ministry of Finance on Monday, 16 March 2026, presented a token of appreciation to the Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, in recognition of his recent continental award.
Bangura was named African Government Minister of the Year 2025 by African Leadership Magazine (ALM) during the 15th edition of the African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards, held on 27 February 2026 in Accra, Ghana.
Presenting the appreciation plaque, the Financial Secretary, Matthew Dingie, congratulated the minister on receiving the prestigious award. He said the staff and management of the Ministry of Finance were proud of the minister’s achievement and the recognition it brings to the country.
Dingie explained that the presentation was intended to associate the ministry’s staff with the honour and to express their gratitude for Bangura’s leadership in advancing economic management in Sierra Leone.
In his response, Minister Bangura said the recognition belongs not only to him but also to the entire staff of the Ministry of Finance and the Government of Sierra Leone. He noted that the award reflects the collective efforts of the ministry’s workforce in supporting his leadership to achieve economic stability and growth.
The African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards is regarded as one of Africa’s leading public-choice recognition platforms, celebrating leaders whose vision, courage, and transformative actions contribute to the continent’s development.
Bangura secured the African Government Minister of the Year 2025 title with 31.42 percent of the total votes. The poll attracted strong participation from across the African continent and beyond, highlighting widespread recognition of his efforts to strengthen economic governance, advance key fiscal and institutional reforms, and promote financial stability and sustainable development in Sierra Leone.
