In a bid to tackle the rising issue of substance abuse among young people, the Mobile Health Clinic, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, has launched a free healthcare initiative aimed at providing medical treatment and psychosocial support to youths struggling with drug addiction.

Dr. Yeabu Kargbo, Medical Superintendent and Manager of the “Hospital on Wheels” program, explained that the initiative’s goal is to offer essential medical care and emotional support to affected youths, who are often neglected or stigmatized in traditional healthcare settings.

“We are going to Saint Michael, around Lakka and Hastings, to meet the youths at the farms and offer them treatment,” Dr. Kargbo said. “Many of them are rejected or ignored when they visit hospitals, so we are taking healthcare directly to them.”

The idea for this outreach program was conceived two months ago, following a request from the Minister of Youth Affairs to Dr. Kargbo to extend free medical services to drug-affected youths. The team has already provided care at both the APC and SLPP party offices, demonstrating the program’s significance within the community.

While the mobile clinic is not equipped to perform surgeries, it is fully capable of offering wound care, debridement, and trauma management.
