FIFA has just declared Sierra Leone’s Isha Johansen eligible to run for the elected position of Member of the International Council. This development is contained in a release posted on FIFA website dated January 26th 2021.
FIFA confirmed that incumbent Sierra Leone Football Association President, Madam Isha Johansen, who will also be running for a second term mandate, passed the integrity and eligibility tests as criteria of the Review Panel for membership into world football governing council.
“I am truly humbled and excited about what the future may have in store for me and my continent in terms of global football governance. My desire is to play a role in ensuring that our womenfolk are empowered as a force for good governance and football development,”says Madam Johansen in reacting to the news.
Many football stakeholders are convinced that Madam Johansen merits the international recognition, recalling how she was able to come clean of an Anti-Corruption Commission investigation.
The FIFA Council was formerly known as the FIFA Executive Committee. It is the main decision-making body of the organization in the intervals of FIFA Congress. The council is a strategic body that coordinates the global football agenda and his led by the President.
