The Vice President two of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Alie Badara Tarawallie has disclosed that the Country female league is set to kick start in March this year 2022.
According to Alie Badara Tarawallie, the Football Association Primary mandate is to make sure football is played across the country and they have put everything in place to see the first-ever Female Premier League return in the Country. The Football Association has held a series of engagements with female football owners on the return of the League.
He confirmed that in November 2021 the football federation held a seminar with club female owners to map out the way forward for female football, they want to get a structure Leagues in all different levels ranging from under 15 both boys and girls to the senior categories.
He added that the current administration is ready to work to see that Football takes a huge turn because one of their key mandates is to ensure football is played in all corners of the Country.
He said the Executive recently held a meeting with the Premier League board, and the Referees department to ensure that top flight League gets outstanding officiating throughout the second rounds.
Female football has not been played in the Country for almost seven years and that has affected the performance of the female players over the years when they enter international competitions.
In 2019, the Former President of Sierra Leone Isha Johansen hosted West Africa Football Union tournament where four national teams took part in the first editions as Senegal female team won it, while the Senior national team struggled to progress out of the group simply because they have not been in active football while, the National under 20 sides also failed to progress from the group the two-leg qualifiers for the FIFA World qualified.
The lack of a domestic league for female football in the country has forced many female players to travel to Liberia and Guinea to continue their footballing careers.
