The Freetown City Council’s Sports department has climaxed their interdepartmental football competition at the Brima Attougia Mini Stadium at the East End of Freetown.
Four teams started the competition in the semi-final stage, and the two finalists are the Deputy Mayor team and Finance Department after a thrilling displace from the first to the second half that ended 1-1; as the finance Department won the 2022 Worship Mayor trophy by post game penalties and won by 3-2.
While addressing the players and some markets Women and men Her Worship mayor Yonne Aki Sawyer started by appreciating the players who played the match saying that they are all winners and no losers in the match. Noting that the essence of the match is to foster peace and a good working relationship within the Freetown City Council.
Yvonne Aki Sawyer said the Football festival and an event the council held every year to bring the staff together in the spirit of Football and bring everybody closer. She appreciates all departments that took part in the Football festival noting the main reason is for the Staff to feel relaxed after tedious work throughout the year and the Football celebration makes them relax their minds as that was the main motive of the festivals.
She further that, the title to be named the competition Mayor’s Trophy has nothing to do politically, it is just a family thing and they encourage the Staff to continue working in good spirits in transforming the Freetown City Council. She called on all Freetonians to stop littering the Street of Freetown and ensure they pay their tax, Property rate, and shop rate for a better Freetown.
The winning team which is the Finance department went home with two million Leones plus a trophy and medals, while the runners-up went home with one million five hundred thousand Leones old notes and certificates were given to those deserving persons for tremendous work in the Football Festival.
