In a quest to imbibing the spirit of tourism, Fourah Bay College students embarked on a maiden hike to Mount Sugarloaf under the auspices of the Minister of Tourism on Saturday 2nd July 2022.
Hassan Hindolo Senesie, Minister of Tourism in the Adama Sillah led administration said the hiking was timely as more than four hundred students made it to the historic Mount Sugarloaf; adding that the Ministry of Tourism realised to roll out this activity as a holiday plan for students.
He revealed that overtime Fourah Bay College had reposed into the students the idea of reading and writing to examinations without cultivating their social interaction which had as well lowered their confidence .
“As a Ministry, we thought it fit to create this platform for students so they would get to meet with new friends and extend their social influence,’’ Hassan Hindolo Senesie said.
He affirmed that the project had geared up his level of optimism as a result of the massive turned out of students and love the hiking brought.
Hassan Hindolo Senesie assured that he would continue to execute more of his plans and make tourism relevant on the shores of Fourah Bay College.
Minister Senesie appreciated the students for adhering to the call of the Student Union Government.
He urged the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs National to take hiking as one of their core mandates especially to students across the country, and equally fund Students Union Government in every university and colleges in view of propagating the important of tourism to the nation.
Mohamed Rex Bhonapha, the Vice President of Fourah Bay College Students Union Government felt excited for embarking on such trip. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Minister of Tourism and the students for being supportive in making the hiking monumental.
“It is clear that every activities that have to deal with ministries have to be coordinated through the office of the Vice President,’’ Mohamed Rex Bhonapha said.
He assured the students present that the Adama Sillah government caters for everybody and they would ensure that their voice and concerns are heard; noting that they would continue to work in maximizing the interest of the students.
Alfred Sesay, Minister of Education in the Fourah Bay College Students Union Government said the leadership of Adama Sillah had painted lots of blue pictures in the walls of Fourah Bay College of which the momentous hiking served as added inroads.
“I am proud to say that this Students Union Government has delivered on its mandate and has done exactly what the students are expected,’’ Alfred Sesay affirmed.
Mohamed Cedric Kamara, a student of Law Department commended the Students Union Government through the Ministry of Tourism for making the hiking successful. He said hiking is portrayed as one of the social activities that have the tendency to boost the cognitive ability of students. He disclosed that even though the trip was difficult, but at the end he happened to be among the first set of students that made it to Mount Sugarloaf.
He felt impressed for students engaging into such exercise which would bring lots of benefits to their health. Mohamed Cedric Kamara encouraged the SU Government to make this process effective as it would amplify students mind especially in their academic pursuit.
Mariama Mubanatu Kamara, a student of the Economics Department said the hiking in itself was remarkable and enjoyable altogether. She applauded the Minister of Tourism for seeing the exercise as a need and pleasure for students.
