Farmer and Businesswoman Remanded for Alleged Possession of Cannabis

A 49-year-old businesswoman, Yama Kaprr Kamara, and a 38-year-old farmer, Abu Conteh, made their first appearance before Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 8 on charges of unlawful possession of a prohibited drug.

The two are jointly charged with one count of possession of a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drug Control Act 2008, Act No. 10 of 2008.

According to the particulars of the offence, on Sunday, 27th April 2025, at Makondu Village, located in Lower Yoni Chiefdom, Tonkolili District in the Northern Province, both accused were allegedly found in possession of sixteen compressed bales of cannabis sativa without lawful authority.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused persons in court, *no plea was taken.

Prosecutor Inspector Aminata Korio requested a short adjournment, citing the absence of her key witness.

Due to the seriousness of the offence, Magistrate Samura refused bail and adjourned the matter to 12th June 2025 for further proceedings.
