Following the recent political tensions that caused unrest situations as the country prepares for crucial elections, Fambul Tok International, a leading global non-profit organization committed to peacebuilding and community reconciliation has on Thursday 22nd June 2023 in a press release condemned those spates of violence in Sierra Leone and called upon all stakeholders to prioritize peace, unity, and constructive dialogue.
“Sierra Leone, a nation known for its resilience and determination to overcome adversity, has recently witnessed a troubling escalation of violent incidents. Fambul Tok International expresses deep concern over these acts, which undermine the democratic principles upon which Sierra Leone is built. Our organization firmly believes that violence has no place in the political process and must be unequivocally condemned by all”, Fambul Tok Int’l noted.
Fambul Tok International stated that they recognized the importance of free and fair elections as a cornerstone of democracy. They urged all political parties, candidates, and their supporters to exercise restraint and promote peaceful engagement during this critical period in order to foster a conducive and democratic environment.
Fambul Tok further emphasized the significance of fostering community cohesion and reconciliation. “We stand alongside the people of Sierra Leone in encouraging grassroots initiatives that promote healing, forgiveness, and unity. By embracing a culture of peace and dialogue, we can collectively overcome challenges and build a brighter future for all Sierra Leoneans”, they expressed.
As an organization dedicated to peacebuilding, Fambul Tok International expressed commitment to working with local communities, civil society organizations, and government institutions to address the root causes of violence and create sustainable solutions. “Our over 15 years of extensive experience in conflict transformation and reconciliation equips us to offer support, facilitate dialogue, and foster an atmosphere of understanding in Sierra Leone”, they stated.
Fambul Tok International also urged the government of Sierra Leone, along with international partners, to prioritize peacebuilding efforts, strengthen security measures, and ensure the protection of citizens’ rights. They called on all relevant stakeholders to come together, transcend political divisions, and collaborate in a unified manner to address the underlying issues contributing to the current wave of violence. Fambul Tok assured its commitment to supporting Sierra Leone in its journey towards lasting peace and social harmony.
They expressed optimism that with togetherness they could overcome challenges and build a nation where the democratic process would be upheld, violence would be rejected, and all citizens could thrive in an atmosphere of peace and stability.
