COVID-19 cases have exponentially risen in Sierra Leone since May this year swinging the country into the 3rd wave with four more vaccination centres being created by NACOVERC.

The centers were opened against a backdrop of less than a hundred thousand people being vaccinated.

Centers at Connaught Hospital, PCMH, Youyi Building Car Wash and the 34 Military Hospital have been added to the existing ones as a way of tackling the Third Wave and  boosting our national immunization risk against COVID-19.

However, from May 25th – 31st, we had 21 cases, from June 1st – 7th, the cases rose to 61 and from June 8th- 14th, 2021; there have been 225 positive cases with over 80 hospitalized currently.

NACOVERC Spokesman, Solomon Jamiru who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Information and Communications has said the country is doing better in terms of the way at which people go for the jabs compared to other countries in the sub region.

He expressed optimism that some measures might be reactivated to save lives and sustain people’s livelihood.

He assured that they are not going to reinvent any new measure that was not in force adding that social distance and face mask must be maintained.

He noted that based on how the cases are spiraling upwards could warrant action from the authorities in order to keep the transmission spike at a low pace so that the country can get away from this pandemic and focus on development.

Since the start of issuing the vaccines in Sierra Leone, no serious adverse effect is being recorded; only a few mild symptoms have been reported. Clinical trials have shown that no vaccine is 100% effective even the Tetanus and Yellow Fever vaccines made in the 1920s and 30s respectively, have not been proven to be 100% effective.
