Exhibit Clerk Tenders Mortar Pestle in Murder Matter

Detective Sergeant 8577 Kamara A.B. attached to the Exhibit Office at the Kissy Police Station in Freetown has on Friday 17 February 2023 tendered a mortar pestle before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No.1 in Freetown in the on-going murder matter involving Ibrahim Sesay.

The accused was arrested on 14 November 2022 by Detective Police Constable (DPC) 2144 Jalloh S.

Ibrahim Sesay was arraigned before the court on a count charge of murder contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

It was alleged by the police that the accused, on Saturday 24 September 2022 at No. 61 Mayekeneh in Freetown murdered Tejan Sesay.

In continuation of his examination in chief, Detective Sergeant Kamara highlighted his duties and responsibilities including receiving all exhibits from investigators for safekeeping, and tendering them in court when the need arises.

On 5 October 2022, he went on that he was on duty at the aforesaid unit at the Kissy Police Station, when Detective Police Constable (DPC) 12144 Jalloh S. of the said police station handed over to him a mortar pestle for safekeeping.

Mr Kamara added that he registered the exhibit against serial number RC 116/22, noting that since then it had been his custody, which was produced and tendered to form part of the court’s records.

Being that the accused was not legally represented an opportunity was given to him to cross examine the witness. Responding, he told the bench that he had no questions for the witness.

The police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Osman M. Bangura intimated the bench he would not do a re-examination. Eventually, Magistrate Kekura refused the accused bail and remanded him at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.

The matter was adjourned to 23rd February 2023.
