The Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) has benefited from a three-day capacity-building training aimed at enhancing its ability to audit public revenues and taxation.
The training, funded by the European Union through its Technical Assistance and Exchange Information (TAIEX) programme, was held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown from Tuesday, 24 March to Thursday, 26 March 2026.
A total of 42 technical staff from various divisions in Freetown and across the regions participated in the workshop on revenue and tax audits.
The sessions were facilitated by two experts from Poland’s Supreme Audit Office (NIK): Ms. Anna Mach, Acting Deputy Director of the Department of National Security, and Ms. Agnieszka Serlikowska, Acting Deputy Director of NIK’s Regional Branch in Bydgoszcz.
The workshop was designed to strengthen the institutional capacity of ASSL in auditing public revenue and taxation from a Supreme Audit Institution perspective. It focused on enhancing participants’ understanding of audit methodologies for revenue management and tax collection in line with International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) standards.
Emphasis was placed on risk-based auditing, tax compliance, enforcement mechanisms, and the identification of revenue-related risks and irregularities.
Through practical case studies and interactive sessions, participants improved their skills in audit reporting, developing recommendations, and conducting follow-up actions. These efforts are expected to strengthen oversight, accountability, and governance of public revenues in Sierra Leone.
