EU Ambassador Inaugurates Multipurpose Hall

EU Ambassador Manuel Muller inaugurated a multipurpose hall in Falaba District, Sierra Leone, on April 24th, 2024, underscoring the European Union’s commitment to bolstering development in the region. The ceremony, attended by hundreds, including local stakeholders, youth, and women, symbolized the EU’s ongoing partnership with the Sierra Leonean government and Falaba District Council.

The newly commissioned facility represents a significant milestone in Falaba’s development trajectory, reflecting collaborative efforts between the EU and local authorities. Notable among the EU-funded projects in the area are multipurpose halls, market structures, grain stores, and drying floors, enhancing essential infrastructure and services in Falaba and surrounding communities.

In his address, Ambassador Muller emphasized the EU’s support for empowering local councils to facilitate sustainable development and improve service delivery. He highlighted the active involvement of women, youth, and community members, underscoring the importance of grassroots engagement in driving progress.

Minister of Local Government, Amb. Tamba Lamina, commended the EU-Government partnership for advancing sustainable development initiatives, focusing on governance and community empowerment. He emphasized the multifunctionality of the newly inaugurated hall and its contribution to food security and economic prosperity through market infrastructure and improved connectivity.

Falaba District Council Chairman, Ibrahim Sorie Sesay, expressed gratitude for the transformative project, citing its positive impact on community development, productivity, and revenue generation. He highlighted the collaboration with technical assistance from DAI and reiterated the project’s broader support for local councils and civil society organizations across several districts, emphasizing inclusive growth and resilience.

A representative from Civil Society Organization acknowledged the project’s role in enhancing the institutional capacity of the Falaba District Council, particularly in response to challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. The project’s focus on development planning, finance management, and solar energy supply underscores its holistic approach to local development and adaptive capacity.

The inauguration of the multipurpose hall signifies not only infrastructural development but also a commitment to sustainable growth and community resilience, reflecting the EU’s dedication to fostering socio-economic progress in Sierra Leone.
