In a colorful ceremony on Saturday, September 6, 2025, the Executive Chairman of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Abu Bakarr Massaquoi, commended the leadership and dedication of Alhaji Alusine Kamara, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kam Enterprises.

The commendation came during the sod-turning ceremony for the construction of the EPA’s first ultramodern facility outside Freetown, located on Torwama Road in Bo. Dr. Massaquoi expressed admiration after noting that Kam Enterprises had already begun work by pre-financing the project before the initial tranche of funding was released.

Dr. Massaquoi remarked that the EPA had no hesitation in awarding the contract to Kam Enterprises, praising the quality and commitment demonstrated by the company. “As the first provincial project, this building, upon completion, will house a central laboratory and serve as the Center for Environmental Data and Statistics (CEDAS). It will also provide office space to expand our operations for environmental monitoring and innovation,” he explained.

He further emphasized that the project was part of the agency’s broader transformation strategy to strengthen its systems and ensure organizational excellence. “By 2030, the EPA will operate with strengthened systems capable of delivering excellence at all levels,” Dr. Massaquoi affirmed. He also revealed that the land for the edifice was secured back in 2012 and that the project is being fully funded by the agency.

Dr. Massaquoi assured the gathering that President Julius Maada Bio is fully supportive of the project and will witness its completion. Additionally, he disclosed that, within just two weeks, the EPA had destroyed over 190 dredging machines across the country in a nationwide effort to curb destructive river mining.

In his remarks, Alhaji Alusine Kamara recounted how Kam Enterprises secured the contract after responding to an advertisement published four months ago. Following a rigorous procurement process, his company emerged successful and was formally awarded the project on September 3, 2025.

Demonstrating his commitment, Kam Enterprises pre-financed the project’s commencement, which Mr. Kamara described as an act of readiness and responsibility. “God willing, the ultramodern edifice will be completed within ten months. We have a strong team of engineers ready to turn the project plan into action and reality,” he assured.

The project marks a historic milestone in expanding the EPA’s presence and services in the provinces, with Bo City set to host a facility that will strengthen environmental governance and foster innovation nationwide.
