His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has officially commissioned a new office of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) in Moyamba, marking a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to decentralize public services across Sierra Leone.

The establishment of the Moyamba office is intended to improve access to social security services for retirees and contributors in the district, eliminating the need for beneficiaries to travel long distances to Freetown to access their benefits.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Bio emphasized the importance of bringing essential social services closer to the people. “This new office will significantly ease the burden on our retirees by allowing them to access their entitlements within their own district,” he said. “Decentralization remains a key pillar of our commitment to improving service delivery and enhancing the quality of life of all Sierra Leoneans.”

The President noted that the new NASSIT office will streamline pension and benefit processes, reduce travel costs, and improve efficiency for pensioners and contributors alike. By providing localized services, the government aims to strengthen public trust and ensure that retirees can conveniently and dignifiedly access their rightful benefits.

The event attracted local authorities, traditional leaders, and community members, many of whom expressed appreciation for the initiative. Several retirees described the opening of the office as a long-awaited development that acknowledges their contributions to national development.

The commissioning of the Moyamba NASSIT office forms part of President Bio’s broader decentralization agenda, which seeks to promote inclusive governance, improve service delivery, and deepen community engagement across the country.

As Sierra Leone continues on its development path, the opening of the NASSIT office in Moyamba stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its citizens and ensuring that retirees receive their benefits with greater ease, dignity, and efficiency.
