In a spirited ceremony held at the Bo East Division Hall on Wednesday, 21st May 2025, twelve wives of police officers six each from the Old and New Police Barracks received microloans as part of a nationwide economic empowerment initiative spearheaded by the President of the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association (SLPWA), Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu.
Each beneficiary received Le5,000 in microloans, offered at a minimal interest rate with a six-month repayment period. The selection process was conducted transparently through a raffle draw, observed by stakeholders and fellow police wives. Those who were not selected were encouraged to remain hopeful, as Mrs. Sellu assured them that this was only the beginning of a broader effort to uplift police families.
“This initiative is designed to bring lasting change to the lives of our police wives,” Mrs. Sellu emphasized during her keynote address. “I am committed to working closely with all of you, during and even after my time in office. This project has become a reality today thanks to the unwavering support of my husband, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu.”
Fondly known as “Mamy Sellu,” the SLPWA President received a warm welcome from the Regional Police Commander South, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Brima Kanneh, who expressed deep appreciation for the initiative. “I’ve heard about this movement, but seeing it in action here in Bo is truly heartening. I urge all police wives to continue trusting Mrs. Sellu’s leadership,” he remarked.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Madam Katimu Kpaka delivered a heartfelt goodwill message, thanking Mrs. Sellu for her visionary leadership and pledging the continued loyalty and cooperation of police wives in the southern region.
Described as both timely and inspiring, the microloan scheme is part of Mrs. Sellu’s ongoing nationwide tour aimed at promoting financial independence and social cohesion among police families. Her visit to Bo marks another milestone in SLPWA’s mission to build resilient and empowered communities within the Sierra Leone Police Force.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Sellu expressed sincere gratitude to the police leadership in the South for their support and reaffirmed her dedication to the well-being and empowerment of police families across the country.
