The ECI chairman, Sushil Chandra has on the 8th December, 2021 officially welcomed ECSL officials who are on a 2-week study tour and capacity building at the ECI.
The Chairman states that his institution believes in strengthening EMB partnerships through capacity development initiatives, as in this case, between the EC India and EC Sierra Leone.
According to the ECI Chairman, “technology is a tool that drives transparent and impartial systems in elections…”
The ECI chairman registers his support and willingness to always share ECI experiences and practices with other EMBs. He concludes that “ECI will always be eager to share ideas and not hesitate to help in building the capacities of other EMBs…”
The ECI Director of Training and course Coordinator on the capacity development for officials of the ECSL at the International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIDEM)’ Kuldeep Kumar Sahawarat gives a synopsis of the ECSL study tour, the experiences shared during the sessions between the two EMBs and a country specific ICT elections management modules, tools and applications that the ECSL officials have been exposed to during the 2-week capacity building programme.
The ECSL Study Tour Team Coordinator and Director of External Relations, Albert Massaquoi on behalf of the ECSL delegation registers his thanks and appreciation to the ECI Chairman and gives a brief profile of Sierra Leone’s electoral processes and the need to develop the ECSL’s ICT infrastructure in the areas of Information Technology, Citizens Data Management and Voters Roll, Elections Results Management Systems and Stakeholders ease of engagement with the ECSL.
The Director of ICT Mbekay Sylvester Amara and the Ag. Director of Data Management and Voters Roll, Solomon Villa highlight the benefits of the ICT training modules, tools and applications that the ECSL will gain as an institution; and if implemented, the value that the said programmes will add to the general electoral process in Sierra Leone; hence the need for the ECI”s capacity development of the ECSL.
