Educational Stakeholders including Civil Society Activists in Bo district have lauded the step taken by the Ministry of Finance , Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and the Anti-corruption Commission to mount a robust investigation into the overstating of the number of candidates for the payment of WASSCE fess to the West Africa Examination Center(WAEC).
Speaking to A-Z Newspaper, civil society activists said that the 53 schools affected need to be thoroughly investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and other relevant authorities and they will be following on the investigation to ensure that school authorities who are found wanting are prosecuted in order to serve as a deterrent .
According to them, some school authorities have made it now a habit of bloating the school roll for personal benefits and this should be stopped in Sierra Leone.
Some civil Society activists in Bo have called on the ACC and MBSE to continue with the good work of exposing corruption and they will join them to ensure that corruption is stamped out in Sierra Leone.
However, some school authorities in Bo who declined to be named said that they have high number of pupils but what they are receiving as subsidy is very small and therefore called on the MBSSE to ensure that the right thing is done.
