Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, has on February 23, 2024 issued an urgent call to parents, Board of Governors, and Members of Parliament to ensure the timely registration of students for the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

With registration deadlines fast approaching, Minister Sackey stressed that no school would be permitted to upload student data after the cutoff date. “Let me be clear: No school will be allowed to upload after the deadline,” he declared, reinforcing the need for strict adherence to the registration timeline to avoid last-minute disruptions.

While several schools have completed the process, some institutions remain behind schedule, posing a risk to students’ academic futures. The NPSE and BECE play a crucial role in shaping students’ educational paths, making prompt registration essential.

Minister Sackey emphasised the collective responsibility of parents, school boards, and lawmakers in ensuring a smooth and efficient process. “I urge all stakeholders to take immediate action to facilitate the registration of every eligible student,” he stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to educational reforms and accountability.

The government continues to prioritise the enhancement of education standards in Sierra Leone. The NPSE and BECE serve not only as academic milestones but also as key indicators of the effectiveness of national education policies.

As the deadline nears, parents are encouraged to liaise with school authorities to confirm their children’s registration status, while schools are urged to finalize their submissions promptly. The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education remains committed to supporting schools and students throughout the process to ensure the smooth execution of national examinations.

This call to action serves as a crucial reminder of the need for collective effort in securing a brighter future for Sierra Leone’s young learners.
