Following the August 10th ill-gotten political terrorism coupled with the malicious vandalization of state institutions resulting in the death of Security personnel and demonstrators, the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), has vehemently condemned the unfortunate youth violence and also urged the government to expeditiously identify perpetrators and bring them to Justice.
ECOWAS made this condemnation in a Press Statement reiterating that they strongly condemn the violence that occurred in many locations of Sierra Leone that led to the loss of lives.
“(ECOWAS) calls on all to obey the law and order and for the perpetrators of the violence to be identified and brought to justice by the law”, the release states.
It could be recalled that for the past couple of weeks, unknown persons have been inciting citizens against the state and the legitimately and democratically elected President of the Republic of Sierra Leone thereby, putting the state to a standstill.
Another set of faceless individuals utilized social media gullibility and incited citizens to illegally take to the street causing mayhem to peaceful citizens. The August 10th Civil unrest led to the killing of Police Officers in the Eastern part of the Capital city of Freetown and Makeni. That ill-gotten youth violence was specifically tailored to the Eastern location of the City and the predominant stronghold of the main opposition Makeni and Magboraka. There was an eye saw of Police Stations being put ablaze and vehicles burnt to ashes. Such state terrorism precipitated the Acting President Hon. Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh to declare an indefinite Curfew Order across the country from 3:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
