Eastern Farmers Agriculture and General Enterprise (EFAGE-SL) Limited, a leading agribusiness company providing quality fertilizers and high-standard poultry feeds in Sierra Leone, has held its third consecutive annual training and capacity-building workshop for poultry farmers across the country.

The event, organized in partnership with their Dutch partners, Hendrix of Nutreco, took place on 11 March 2026 at the Western Area Rural District Council Hall in Waterloo.

The workshop brought together approximately 150 poultry farmers from different parts of Sierra Leone. During the mission, the organizers will train about 60 poultry farmers and conduct farm visits to provide technical advice on effective farm management practices.

Participants used the opportunity to share their experiences using EFAGE-SL feed, powered by Hendrix, and to discuss key challenges affecting the poultry value chain in Sierra Leone.

Nutreco Africa BV of the Netherlands is currently implementing a pro-poor initiative in Sierra Leone known as the HendrixU4 Project. The project aims to contribute to national food security efforts across selected developing countries by strengthening poultry production and improving farmers’ capacity.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of EFAGE-SL, Sahr Lahai Jusu, said the workshop aims to sustain the gains achieved from previous training sessions, share cross-farm experiences gathered during field visits, and strengthen resilience within Sierra Leone’s poultry value chain.

He added that the one-day workshop focuses on several important areas, including improving poultry husbandry and farm management, nutrition and local feed formulation, farm hygiene, biosecurity and health management, data collection and record-keeping, the use of the Hendrix Layer Genius software, and financial management for poultry businesses.

During the session, Desmond Moses Kamara delivered a presentation on EFAGE’s feed production processes. He highlighted the different types of raw materials used, the various feed products manufactured, and the steady growth in the company’s production capacity.

Some farmers also shared positive testimonies about the impact of EFAGE’s products and technical support.

Mbayo Koroma, a poultry farmer from Bo, said their farm currently manages more than 2,000 birds and that EFAGE feed has significantly improved the productivity of their poultry.

Similarly, Madam Sitta Kai Kai, a poultry farmer from Kono District, noted that the technical guidance provided by EFAGE on farm management, together with the use of EFAGE feeds, has greatly contributed to improving the productivity of their farm.
