The Director of the Center for Diagnostic and Research in Molecular Medicine (C.D.R.M.M) in Dakar Senegal Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Sy has on Tuesday 29th March, 2022 briefed Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Senegal, His Excellency Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma about plans in establishing a multidisciplinary diagnostic center- health clinics and DNA forensics in Sierra Leone.
During a conducted tour on Tuesday March 29th, 2022 by the H.E Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma of the C.D.R.M.M center, the Director of the center, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Sy explained their ambition to implement in Sierra Leone a state of the art facility accredited to the highest international standard capable of providing diagnostic services for all diseases using the means of molecular biology, medical imagery and other latest technical developments in the field.
He disclosed that they have earmarked between €80m- €100m for thev establishment of the center in Sierra Leone and would want to partner with the Government of Sierra Leone.
He disclosed further that the establishment of the center will be an example of an efficient and beneficial partnership between the state and a private center that will substantially improve the quality of health care services in the country, better prevent crime and will provide jobs and training programs to Sierra Leoneans.
“This is our motivation when we returned to Africa to invest and i have visited Sierra Leone and we are motivated to invest medically that will highly impact the healthcare” Dr. Sy said.
The Sierra Leone Ambassador to Senegal was pleased with the activities of the medical center and the desire of the medical research center to invest same in Sierra Leone. He re-echoed government’s desire in improving health care services for the people. He mentioned the recent experience sharing visit by Sierra Leone on Senegal’s universal health coverage and health insurance, and also the government’s provision of mobile health clinics. He commended the medical laboratory for the desire to invest in Sierra Leone.
The business model of the medical laboratory is to invest to build, equip and manage and will be constructing centers in the regional headquarter towns. They proposed having mobile clinics equipped for the rural areas where they will treat specialized diseases and cancer treatment and medical emergencies.
The center will have a clinical biology unit, molecular unit, cytology-histology unit, parasitology, medical imaging unit, human identification unit ( DNA forensics- paternity testing, DNA bank) radiography, research, development and training unit, genetic finger printing.
The Diagnostic and Research Center for Molecular Medicine (CDRMM) in Dakar is the first private medical laboratory and human identification testing by DNA testing in Africa inaugurated in 2012. It is based on the methods of molecular biology and other advanced technologies so to provide reliable results with very limited results rendered times.
