Abubakarr Kargbo, (Bo)

Rita Agnes Jonjo is a JSS 2 pupil of the Ahmadiyya Nasrat Muslim Secondary School in Bo. Our Bo correspondent says her condition is life threatening, suffering from chronic ulcer on the shin, with protruding bones. Her condition is compounded with stomach blockage and lacerations that was supposed to have been operated at Connaught Hospital.

She spent three months at the Connaught Hospital and returned home with no improvement.

According to Agnes’s step-dad, they never realized the gravity of the injury when the foot initially got swollen, because they took her to a herbalist but the situation got worse when the bone burst the skin. At that point, the native doctor was no longer able to handle the situation and that the girl should be referred to the government hospital.

It has been revealed that Rita was later taken to a Community Health Center in Gerihun to treat the ulcerous condition. There was little progress at the said health center for a while, but the condition has since degenerated.

Whilst attending school before the worsened state, Rita was scorned by her colleagues. According to the Principal of the school, Mrs. Musu S.Alie:“We never knew that the situation of the girl has worsened… Her continuous absence from class became a concern to us all.”

Rita has been suffering for the past five years both in pains and in trauma as she has been a laughing stock and gossip in Jourmu, Boama chiefdom Bo District where she lives.

Now that she is crying for help, her class mates and other students of the school started making donations after the announcement was made by the principal of the school. Staffers of the school are also donating.

Her step father, a poor farmer Abdul Rahman Jongo is now finding it difficult to cope with the medical expenditure of his daughter who aimed to be a nurse in the future.

Meanwhile, while the father has expressed gratitude to the school authorities and the pupils of the contribution He is also calling on the Government and Non-Governmental Organizations to come to the aid of her daughter.
