The District Traffic Officer (DTO) Kono attached to the Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters has revealed to this medium that the centralization and too much administrative bureaucracies in securing licenses are among the major factors responsible for the influx of unregistered and unlicensed vehicles and motorbikes in Kono District and the country as a whole.
Assistant Superintendent (ASP) of police, Mustapha Alhaji Senesie made the pronouncement in an exclusive interview relative to this year’s commemoration of the United Nations Global Road Safety Week scheduled for May, 2021.
ASP Senesie pointed out that most of the vehicles and motorbike owners have paid for their licenses but have not received them owing to the highlighted centralization and administrative bureaucracies for the insurance of licenses.
The Tankoro Police Traffic Boss said in order to avoid the normal misunderstanding between the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority and the Sierra Leone Police, the central government needs to promptly intervene in the said situation as it has the potential of the government losing revenue at the same time.
According to Mr Senesie both the vehicle and motorbikes owners would become lawless for not registering and licensing their vehicles and motorbikes. As a way forward, ASP Mustapha Alhaji Senesie underscored the establishment of District Headquarter town offices for the issuances of licenses.
