A 36-year-old driver, Saidu Dumbuya, also known as Yaraba, has been committed to the High Court by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 on three criminal charges, including wounding with intent.
The charges include wounding with intent, contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861; wounding, contrary to Section 20 of the same Act; and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused allegedly, on Saturday, 9 August 2025, at Jeneba Drive, Regent Village, in the Mountain Rural District, Western Area of Freetown, wounded Mohamed Ramadan Jalloh with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
Counts two and three further allege that on the same date and place, the accused maliciously wounded and assaulted the said Mohamed Ramadan Jalloh, thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.
The prosecution, led by Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai, called its witnesses, after which the prosecution closed its case and the matter was withdrawn for ruling.
In his ruling, Magistrate Jah stated that having carefully examined the evidence presented, he was satisfied that the prosecution had adduced sufficient evidence to warrant committing the matter to the High Court. The accused was therefore committed to stand trial at the High Court without bail.
