The Traffic Department of the Tankoro Police Divisional headquarters in Koidu City, Kono District, is currently investigating two fatal road accidents. The first involves Samuel Foday, a businessman in the building materials industry. According to Inspector Mohamed B. Bayoh, the Junior Police Officer in charge of crimes at the Traffic Department, the accident occurred as Samuel was traveling from Freetown to Koidu City in a mandesel vehicle with registration number ATN536, driven by Junisa Goba.
Due to the 12 am daily curfew, the vehicle spent the night at the Mabundu checkpoint on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Around 6:30 am on Sunday, December 17, 2023, the driver, the deceased, and others in the vehicle decided to resume their journey. While approaching Koidu City, Samuel, aiming to easily disembark at a specific spot in the city, climbed to the top of the loaded vehicle, which was carrying assorted building materials.
Unfortunately, one of the apprentices observed that Samuel had slipped off the vehicle near the Malador filling station on Masingbi Road in Koidu City. Despite receiving medical attention at the Koidu Government hospital, Samuel succumbed to his injuries on the same day. Inspector Bayoh mentioned that preliminary findings suggest the deceased may have been sleeping when he fell, and his remains have been handed over to his family for burial.
In a separate incident, the Traffic Department is also investigating a fatal road accident involving Military Officer Corporal Mohamed Tarawally. Reliable information indicates that he was hit and killed on the main Kainkordu Road in Koidu City by a running motorbike. Corporal Tarawally, who was set to meet his retirement conditions next month, tragically lost his life. The motorbike rider involved in the accident is currently hospitalized in the emergency ward at the Koidu Government hospital due to the severity of the incident. Police investigations into this matter are ongoing.
